I bring in a leaf with a tiny white egg. Through a magnifying glass, it resembles a small beehive. In 3-5 days, a caterpillar hatches, so tiny I can barely see it!
For 7-10 days, I feed the caterpillars fresh milkweed. When they're ready, they attach themselves to the aquarium cover or a stick and transform into a light green chrysalis with shimmering gold spots.
For another 7-10 days, each one stays in a chrysalis. When one becomes black with gold spots, I know it will hatch soon. This week I was excited to watch one butterfly emerge, something I usually miss. The small, crinkled butterfly slowly pumps up its wings, hanging to dry them.
Each time I release a newly hatched Monarch, I thrill to the beauty of a perfect butterfly. I never tire of seeing God's miracle of a new butterfly.
