The Temple Curtain by Ruth Moblard DeYoung is a beautifully illustrated book about Nathan, a 12-year-old boy who lived in Jerusalem during biblical times. Poor Nathan is crippled and hates his situation, as well as his crutches, because it means he won't be able to serve in the temple when he is older. He has heard of a man named Jesus, but his Jewish family isn't sure whether or not the claims of His being the Messiah are true. His cousin suggests that Nathan go where Jesus is healing people and ask that He heal his legs ... and he does! Then Nathan hears a terrible rumor that Jesus is going to be crucified and begs his parents to go see Him to thank Him for healing Nathan's legs. Nathan goes to town and finds Jesus hanging on the cross. At the same time, significant things are happening at the Temple where Nathan's Dad, Eli, is a priest.
The illustrations are remarkable in The Temple Curtain by Ruth Moblard DeYoung and have such a wonderful color and tone to them. I absolutely loved this story and wanted to cry when Jesus healed Nathan and when Nathan's heart was so touched when he heard about what they were planning to do to Jesus. The Temple Curtain is a fantastic Christian historical fiction book for families to read together or for use in children's bible study at church. I am going to tell everyone I know about The Temple Curtain and encourage them to read it.
