It is two short verses in the book of Matthew: chapter 2, verses:50-51. "Then Jesus cried again with a loud voice and breathed his last. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, and the rocks were split." This same event is also reported in Mark 15:37-38 and Luke 23:44-46 as part of the crucifixion story.
Whenever I read those verses, it gives me a sense of awe. The tearing of that curtain in the temple at the moment of Jesus' death symbolizes what Jesus accomplished by sacrificing himself on the cross. He made forgiveness of sins possible, and made it possible for us to come into God's presence in prayer and worship.
I wrote my book called The Temple Curtain in order to help boys and girls feel that same awe at what God did for us in Christ. I hope it will do just that.
